Staff Associated with the School of Music
- Dr Stefan Bilbao received his BA in Physics at Harvard University (’92), then spent two years at the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique Musicale (IRCAM) in Paris as a student intern. He then completed the MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University (’96 and ’01, respectively), while working at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). He currently works on sound synthesis based on physical models of musical instruments, with a particular focus on the intersection between digital filtering techniques and numerical simulation methods as well as audio dereverberation.
- Professor Peter Nelson is a highly published composer and a specialist in interactive computer systems, sound synthesis, and music and AI. He is Head of Music and Director of the Electroacoustic Music Studios in the School of Arts, Culture and Environment.
- Dr Michael Edwards is a Reader in Music and Programme Director for the MSc in Digital Composition and Performance. Dr Edwards specialises in algorithmic composition and internet audio.
- Professor Arnold Myers is Senior Lecturer in Music and Director of The Edinburgh University Collections of Historic Musical Instruments. He has published extensively on the history and acoustics of musical instruments, and is co-author of the book “Musical Instruments: History, Technology and Performance” (2004).
