One of the primary goals of the MSc in Acoustics and Music Technology is to prepare students for postgraduate-level research in areas related to acoustics, signal processing, music technology and beyond.
Feedback from many alumni shows that the programme is indeed an excellent preparation for such a career pathway, with nearly half our graduates going on to funded PhD studies, either at Edinburgh or elsewhere.
The MSc is also an excellent preparation for jobs in acoustics, audio programming, and signal processing, as well in many other sectors that require high level transferable skills in numerate subjects, technical writing, and project management.
For example, a significant proportion of the AMT MSc alumni now work in acoustic consultancy, helping to design the acoustics of new and existing buildings all around the world.
The high level skills you will develop in project design and management, data acquisition and processing, and critical and analytic thought are highly transferable skills that are always in demand in a wide variety of other industries.
